Frequently asked questions
Does this change my original file?
No. The selected file is read and a separate result is created in browser memory. Downloading saves a new file and does not overwrite the source.
Is this lossless, frame-exact cutting?
The selected range is re-encoded at 30 FPS. It is not merely copying keyframe-aligned bytes, but it is not lossless or byte-identical either. Frame and audio sample boundaries may slightly affect the actual end.
Can I retain the source sound?
When enabled, one primary audio track is re-encoded to AAC or Opus and saved with the video. A source without audio stays silent. If requested audio cannot be processed, an error appears rather than silently removing it.
Should I choose MP4 or WebM?
MP4 uses H.264/AAC; WebM uses VP8/Opus. Your browser must support encoding the selected codecs. If one format is unavailable, try the other format or a supported browser.
Are resolution and subtitles preserved?
Smaller sources are not upscaled, and dimensions are adjusted to even sizes for encoding. Only primary video and optional primary audio are included. Subtitles, extra audio tracks, attachments and original metadata are not retained.
Can the trimmed result be larger than the source?
Yes. A shorter clip may grow if encoded at a higher bitrate or with a different codec. Choose a smaller long edge and shorter range. Outputs exceeding 64 MiB are stopped without offering a partial file.
