Map Print Composer
Turn your own small-area geographic data into a measured paper layout. Choose a page, center and representative fraction such as 1:10,000. The tool projects WGS84 coordinates onto a bounded local tangent plane, draws a longitude/latitude grid and creates a scale bar at the specified physical length. Categories from each feature's category property appear in a legend. You supply the source and must verify that you may print and share it.
Key features
- Real A4 or US Letter landscape or portrait dimensions and adjustable margins
- Local GeoJSON Point, LineString and Polygon drawing, including polygon holes
- Fit-to-data estimate plus editable map center and scale denominator
- Longitude and latitude grid labels, north marker, category legend and measured scale bar
- Source attribution printed in the layout rather than hidden in metadata
- Standalone SVG and 200 dpi rasterized PDF with matching physical page dimensions
How to use
- Open or paste a WGS84 FeatureCollection, or load the self-created sample.
- Choose A4 or Letter and an orientation. Fit the data, then adjust the map center, scale and margins if needed.
- Enter a short map title and a truthful source attribution. Verify your rights to the source map data.
- Generate and inspect the preview. If features are clipped, adjust the center or scale and generate again.
- Download the SVG for vector editing or the matching 200 dpi PDF for printing at actual size.
Use cases
- Print a short walking route and meeting point with a useful scale bar
- Add coordinate labels and a source line to your own neighborhood data
- Compare a portrait and landscape layout without uploading location data
- Prepare an annotated draft map for a field notebook
Frequently asked questions
Does the print layout use an online basemap?
No. It draws only your supplied GeoJSON and a locally generated coordinate grid. It neither fetches outside tiles nor claims an external basemap source.
How accurate is the printed scale?
The scale bar has the specified physical length at 100% print size. Coordinates use a local tangent-plane approximation centered on the chosen latitude; terrain, paper resizing, projection distortion and printer settings can affect ground accuracy. This is not a survey-grade map.
What does Fit to data do?
It estimates a map center and rounds the scale denominator upward so all input vertices have about 20% spare space. You can then edit the center and denominator manually.
What happens outside the map frame?
The preview clips shapes to the frame and reports features with outside vertices. Enlarge the scale denominator or recenter before printing if all of a feature must be visible.
Where do the legend names come from?
Each feature's string category property is used when present; otherwise Point, Line or Area is shown. Up to eight distinct categories are supported.
Are my coordinates or source files uploaded?
No. Parsing, layout and PDF generation happen in this browser tab. Only files you explicitly save leave the tab.
Privacy
The GeoJSON, location and source attribution stay in the browser tab. This tool has no map-tile or processing API request.
