Cross Stitch Chart Maker
Choose an image and the number of stitches across. The tool downsamples the image to a square-cell grid at its aspect ratio. Each cell maps to the nearest color in your editable thread palette, and each color gets a unique printable symbol. Review the code, symbol, and stitch count legend; export a PDF split into printable regions. The match is a simple RGB-distance approximation, not an official thread-brand palette or skein estimate.

Frequently asked questions
Does it match a specific thread brand exactly?
No. The default colors are generic examples, not an official brand palette. Enter the thread codes and colors you plan to use and compare against physical swatches.
Does the count tell me how many skeins I need?
No. It counts grid cells per color only. Fabric count, thread strands, tension, and waste determine thread consumption.
Can I print without color?
Yes. Every color must have a distinct text symbol, and the PDF grid uses black symbols on white cells. Match symbols to thread codes on the first page.
Why does the PDF have multiple pages?
Large charts are split into 35-column by 50-row regions so symbols stay readable. Each page includes row and column ranges; the first page is the color and stitch-count legend.
Is my image stored on the server?
No. Resizing, color matching, and PDF generation happen in the current browser. Refreshing clears the input state.
