JSON Structure Diff
Compare parsed JSON values while ignoring whitespace and object key order. Arrays are compared by position; additions, removals, and changes are reported using JSON Pointer paths. The result is a difference report, not an executable JSON Patch document.
Key features
- Ignore formatting and object property order.
- Compare array entries by their index.
- Show paths and before/after values for added, removed, and changed data.
How to use
- Enter the baseline JSON and comparison JSON in their respective fields.
- Run the comparison to validate syntax and supported limits.
- Inspect equal, changeCount, and changes to see the result.
Use cases
- Compare changes between API responses.
- Find actual changes in configuration values.
- Check whether differently formatted JSON documents are equivalent.
Frequently asked questions
Does array order matter?
Yes. Arrays are compared position by position. Inserting an element near the beginning can therefore produce changes at several later indexes.
What do ~0 and ~1 mean in a path?
JSON Pointer escapes ~ as ~0 and / as ~1. An empty path refers to the root value of the document.
How are large integers or long decimals handled?
Non-finite numbers and integers outside the safe integer range are rejected. A number is also rejected if its original decimal value differs from JavaScript’s round-trip number string, including underflow. For example, 0.1 and 100e-3 are accepted, but 0.10000000000000001 must be supplied as a JSON string.
What are the limits, and how are duplicate keys handled?
Each document supports up to 50,000 UTF-16 code units and a nesting depth of 100. Duplicate object keys use the last value under JSON.parse rules, so remove duplicate keys before comparison.
