Similar Photo Finder
Each photo is reduced to a small white-matted sample. The tool calculates 128 bits of horizontal and vertical brightness-change fingerprints plus average RGB color. It compares every pair, groups likely matches, and lets you choose one keeper per group. It never moves or deletes your files; only a review list is downloaded.
Key features
- Read 2–24 still PNG, JPEG or WebP photos in your browser and calculate two 64-bit difference hashes and average color for each.
- Connect photos only when both Hamming-distance and mean-RGB thresholds pass.
- Find resized versions of a scene and flag groups connected through a middle photo without every pair matching directly.
- Choose one keeper for each group; label the other files for review instead of deleting them.
- Download CSV with file names, dimensions, sizes and decisions, or JSON with the comparison evidence.
How to use
- Select 2–24 photos or load the generated three-photo example.
- Adjust the fingerprint-bit and color-distance thresholds and inspect each group and matched pair.
- Choose exactly one keeper in every similar-photo group.
- Download the CSV or JSON review list, then decide separately what to do with the originals.
Use cases
- Find an event photo and its resized copy, then choose which one to keep.
- Review likely duplicate product shots collected from different folders.
- Share a CSV candidate list for human checking before any file cleanup.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool delete photos automatically?
No. It groups candidates in the browser and writes a review list after you choose keepers. The CSV review label means a person should check that file; it is not a deletion command.
How is similarity measured?
Each photo is scaled to 9×9 on a white matte. Horizontal and vertical brightness comparisons produce 64 bits each. A pair is connected only when its different-bit count and average RGB distance both fall within your thresholds.
Can two photos in one group be unlike each other?
Yes. If A matches B and B matches C, all three form a connected group even when A does not match C. The interface warns about this and lists the direct pair evidence. Inspect every member before choosing a keeper.
Will it find crops and recolored versions accurately?
Resizing or light re-encoding is often tolerated, while cropping, rotation, color grading and transparency changes can alter the fingerprint. Different scenes with similar composition can also match, so treat the groups as review candidates.
Are photos or reports sent to a server?
Photo bytes and previews stay in this page's browser memory. Temporary URLs are released when you clear the input or leave. Only the CSV or JSON you explicitly request is saved locally.
Which formats and limits apply?
Still PNG, JPEG and WebP are supported, from 2 to 24 files. Each file may be up to 8 MiB, with a 64 MiB combined limit, a 6,000-pixel side limit and 20 million pixels per photo. Animated PNG and WebP are rejected.
Privacy
Photos are decoded and compared only in this page's browser memory. There is no upload, automatic deletion or browser storage. Reports contain file names, sizes, fingerprints and selections rather than original image bytes.
