Mouse Test
Inspect mouse events delivered by the browser inside an explicitly started test area. View held states and event counts for left, middle, right, back and forward buttons, plus wheel deltas. A short interval flag only means your chosen threshold was met; it is not proof of switch failure or a USB polling-rate measurement.
Key features
- Separate down, up, click and dblclick for five buttons
- Track buttons bitmask changes during button chords
- Compare press intervals with a 0–1,000 ms threshold
- Show wheel deltaX, deltaY, deltaZ and browser units
- Release captures and held states when stopped or focus is lost
How to use
- Set an interval threshold if needed, then start the test.
- Press individual buttons or several buttons together inside the area.
- Move the wheel vertically or horizontally and review the event tables.
- Stop with Escape or Stop, or clear records to begin again. Compare repeated tests under the same conditions.
Use cases
- See how additional mouse buttons are delivered to the browser
- Compare deliberate rapid clicks with ordinary press intervals
- Inspect mouse or trackpad wheel direction and units
Frequently asked questions
Does a short interval flag prove double-click failure?
No. It only marks two presses of the same button within your chosen interval. Deliberate quick clicks, OS settings and browser event delays can affect it. This tool alone cannot diagnose a hardware fault.
Can I add click and dblclick counts to get total clicks?
No. dblclick is a separate event added when the browser recognizes a double click and can overlap the click count. Down and up are separate counts of observed button-state changes.
Can it track multiple buttons held together?
The tool compares Pointer Events buttons bits. A second button may be reported as pointermove rather than pointerdown, and that change is included. Buttons intercepted or not delivered by the browser cannot be observed.
Are Back, Forward and operating-system shortcuts blocked?
The active area prevents auxiliary-click and context-menu defaults where possible. It cannot guarantee suppression of navigation or shortcuts intercepted by the browser or OS. Interactions outside the area are unchanged.
Are wheel numbers distances or polling rates?
They are the original WheelEvent deltas and units. CSS pixels, lines and pages may differ, so they are not summed into one distance. Trackpads can also produce wheel events. These values are not physical travel distances or USB polling rates.
What are the record limits and stop behavior?
The most recent 40 button events and 40 wheel events are retained separately. Cumulative button counts remain until reset. Tab, Escape, focus loss, hiding or resizing stops the session and releases held states without adding artificial up counts.
Privacy
Button, wheel, coordinate, pressure and path records stay in this page’s memory. This tool does not send these records to a server or analytics service or save them to browser storage. Clear, reload or close the page to remove them. Site-wide advertising and analytics may operate separately.
