Touchscreen Test
Move several fingers across a touchscreen test area and inspect the contacts delivered by the browser. Each path has a pointer ID and a separate path number, with its last coordinates, pressure and completion state. Mouse simulation is a distinct mode for trying the drawing interface and is not presented as a real touch test.
Key features
- Separate real touch input from mouse simulation
- Show coordinates, pressure, paths and observed simultaneous contacts
- Highlight cells reached by event samples on an 8×8 grid
- Release contacts on cancellation, capture loss or stop
- Bound records to 32 paths and the latest 256 samples per path
How to use
- On a touchscreen, leave simulation off and start the test.
- Draw with one finger inside the area, then use several fingers simultaneously.
- Inspect contacts, paths and coordinates. Grid shading only marks cells reached by samples.
- Stop to review or clear records. Enable mouse simulation only when trying the interface with a mouse.
Use cases
- See whether touch gestures reach the browser as multiple pointers
- Observe discontinuities in touch paths and relative coordinates repeatedly
- Try the drawing interface on a device without a touchscreen
Frequently asked questions
Does drawing with a mouse test the touchscreen?
No. The default mode accepts only pointerType touch events and excludes mouse and pen input. Optional mouse simulation does not demonstrate real touch, pressure or multi-touch capability.
Is the maximum observed contact count the device specification?
It is the highest number of active contacts delivered by the browser during this test. It does not automatically measure the hardware’s maximum supported fingers. Browser, OS and gesture policies can affect input.
Why might pressure stay at 0.5?
Devices without pressure sensing can report a default value while pressed. The value is a browser-provided number from 0 to 1, not a measurement of physical force or weight. Pressure is not shown for mouse simulation.
Does a fully shaded grid prove the entire screen works?
No. A shaded cell means an event sample reached it. It does not test every point inside the cell or every position skipped during rapid motion, and it is not a dead-pixel test.
What are coordinate, path and out-of-area limits?
Coordinates are CSS pixels relative to the area’s top-left corner. Captured positions outside the area remain visible in the table, while drawing is clamped to the edge. Up to 32 paths and the latest 256 samples per path are retained, so older line segments may disappear.
How do scrolling and cancellation work?
Touch scrolling is disabled only in the active test area. Normal page gestures remain available outside it. OS gestures, browser cancellation or capture loss mark a path cancelled; focus loss, hiding, resizing or stopping releases every active contact.
