Peg Solitaire Board
Select a peg, then an empty hole exactly two cells away in the same row or column. The middle hole must hold a peg; the jump removes that peg and moves the source peg to the destination. Choose a one-peg-in-center or one-peg-anywhere goal. A blocked layout or a single peg away from a required center is not called a win.

- Orthogonal two-hole jumps with occupied middle and empty destination checks

- Replay-validated JSON, numeric move CSV, undo and reset
- One locally legal hint and arrow-key board navigation
How to use
- Choose the board shape and goal, then load a standard start or one-jump exercise. You can edit the current layout into a new starting position.
- Select an occupied hole, then a green highlighted empty destination. Arrow keys move focus; Enter/Space select. Tap on touch screens.
- Inspect remaining pegs and legal moves. Request a legal next-move hint if useful; it does not guarantee the eventual solution.
- Finish with one peg satisfying your goal, or undo/reset. Export the replayable JSON session or numeric move CSV.
Use cases
- Practice the jumped-middle-peg removal rule
- Compare legal moves on 33- and 37-hole boards
- Explore whether a user-made start is blocked or reaches its goal
Frequently asked questions
What makes a jump legal?
Source and middle holes must hold pegs, and the destination must be an empty board hole. The move is exactly two cells along one row or column and removes the middle peg. Diagonal, one-cell and off-board moves are rejected.
Why is one remaining peg not a win?
With the center goal, the final peg must be at row 4, column 4. A final peg elsewhere is marked as a missed goal. The any-hole goal accepts any single remaining peg.
Is the hint a solution?
No. It deterministically shows one currently legal move whose destination is near the center. It neither proves that this move can lead to a win nor searches for the shortest complete path.
Can a custom opening be solved?
There is no guarantee. Editing takes the current pegs as a new initial layout and clears earlier moves. No legal move is marked blocked, but this tool does not prove future solvability.
Is game data stored remotely?
No. This browser tab handles the game. Only explicitly downloaded JSON and CSV remain on your device. Import replays every JSON move for validation.
Privacy
