Frequently asked questions
Can ㄱㅏ be composed into 가?
No. Those are compatibility jamo. Composition accepts modern leading jamo U+1100–1112, vowel jamo U+1161–1175, and optional trailing jamo U+11A8–11C2 in that order.
Why can decomposed output look unchanged?
Fonts and shaping engines may render conjoining jamo as a single syllable. The code-point sequence changes even when the visual form looks identical.
Does this normalize every character to NFC or NFD?
No. Only modern Hangul syllables and their valid jamo sequences are transformed. Latin accents, emoji, and other characters keep their normalization form.
What happens to archaic or malformed jamo?
Only modern Hangul is supported. Archaic jamo and incorrectly ordered sequences are kept unchanged rather than guessed.
