Print Preflight Auditor
Enter the requirements supplied by your print shop, then check actual page boxes, image placements and declared fonts in the PDF.
Key features
- Compare explicit TrimBox size with a target trim size, allowing 0.5 mm rounding tolerance and page rotation
- Measure all four BleedBox margins against a user-selected bleed requirement
- Calculate effective image PPI from pixel dimensions and each PDF drawing transform, including form placements
- Inspect page and form font resources for actual embedded FontFile streams and locate missing programs
- Export a local JSON issue report with page, operator and object evidence
How to use
- Enter the final trimmed width and height, minimum bleed and minimum effective image PPI requested by your printer.
- Select a PDF stored on your device, or run the built-in example.
- Review each page's box coordinates, four bleed margins, image placements and font resource evidence.
- Ask the print shop to inspect the artwork edges, color, overprint and complete PDF/X requirements before production.
Use cases
- Check whether an A4 flyer PDF has a 3 mm bleed box on every edge
- Find a 72-pixel photo enlarged to 50 mm and therefore below the required PPI
- Locate a non-embedded Helvetica resource before handing a PDF to a print shop
- Document review items for artwork bleed and print profile checks
Frequently asked questions
Does a good result certify a file for print or PDF/X?
No. This checks selected geometry, image placements and font resources only. Box margins do not prove that visible artwork extends into the bleed area. Color, overprint, transparency and complete PDF/X rules need a specialist preflight and printer approval.
Is image PPI read from image metadata?
No. Effective PPI uses the raster's pixel dimensions divided by the physical size at each PDF drawing operation, including scaling and rotation. Unsupported image masks and groups are explicitly flagged for review.
Can a font resource be present but unused?
Yes. This reports declared page and nested form font resources, which can include an unused font. A missing program is flagged according to the chosen requirement; inspect the affected resource before replacing fonts.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is read in browser memory and the JSON report is generated locally. No PDF content is sent to a server by this tool.
