JPG, PNG, WebP supported. You can also paste screenshots with Ctrl+V. Images never leave your browser.

The AI model runs on-device, inside your browser. After a one-time model download it's cached for instant reuse — and your photos never leave your device.

What is the Background Remover?

Background removal (cutout) means keeping just the person or object in a photo and making the background transparent. This tool uses an AI segmentation model (the open-source U²-Net family, Apache-2.0) to detect the subject automatically and produce a transparent PNG in one click. Without Photoshop, you can clear the background of product shots, profile photos, and presentation images in seconds — and swap in a white or custom-color background before saving.

Most background removal sites upload your photo to their servers. This tool works the other way: the AI model comes to your browser and runs on your device. Family photos, kids' pictures, and unreleased product shots never leave your machine — with no usage limits, watermarks, or sign-up. After the one-time model download (standard 44MB / fast 5MB), the browser cache makes repeat visits instant.

Key Features

One-Click AI Cutout

A U²-Net-family AI detects people, pets, and products automatically and removes the background in one click.

On-Device, No Upload

Inference runs inside your browser, so photos never leave your device — safe even for sensitive images.

Background Swap & Edge Softening

Choose transparent PNG, white, or any color instantly, and reduce compositing artifacts with edge softening.

Two Quality Modes

Pick the precise Standard (44MB) or the quick Fast (5MB) model. Each downloads only once.

How to Use

  1. Add a photo — Drag & drop, click to browse, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
  2. Pick a model — Standard for quality, Fast for speed and data savings.
  3. Remove the background — Press the button; after the one-time model download, the AI separates the subject.
  4. Choose background & download — Pick transparent, white, or a custom color and save as PNG.

Use Cases

E-Commerce Product Photos

Clear home-shot product backgrounds and unify them on white for marketplace listings.

Profile & ID Photos

Erase the background and swap in a solid color for social profiles or ID badge images.

Slides & Thumbnails

Drop person/product cutouts into presentations and YouTube thumbnails for a professional composite.

Stickers & Goods

Turn pet or character photos into transparent PNGs as print-ready sources for stickers and merch.

Always save as PNG when you need transparency. Some messengers preview transparent PNGs on white, but the file itself stays transparent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No — that's the defining feature. The AI model is brought into your browser and runs on your device. The only download is the model file; not a single byte of your photo leaves the machine. Family photos and unreleased product shots are completely safe.

What's the 44MB download at the start?

That's the AI segmentation model. Because processing happens on your device instead of a server, the model downloads once and is then cached by the browser for instant reuse. If data is a concern, choose the 5MB Fast model.

How can I improve cutout quality?

Larger subjects and stronger contrast with the background help most. If results disappoint: ① switch to the Standard model, ② crop tighter around the subject and retry, ③ toggle edge softening. Transparent objects like glass and very fine hair are shared limits of all AI cutout tools.

Can I make the background white instead?

Yes. After removal, choose transparent, white, or any custom color — the preview updates instantly without re-running the AI. It's especially handy for white-background product photos for marketplaces.

Can I use the results commercially?

Yes, the output is yours to use commercially (copyright and portrait rights of the original photo are your responsibility to check). The underlying AI models (U²-Net family) are Apache-2.0 open source, which permits commercial use.

Processing feels slow.

Inference runs on your device, so speed scales with hardware. The first run includes the model download; afterwards each image takes seconds to tens of seconds. For speed, choose the Fast model, use the latest Chrome/Edge, and prefer a desktop PC.

Privacy Notice

Your photos and results are processed entirely in your browser (on your device) and never transmitted to or stored on a server. Only the AI model file is downloaded from a CDN — never your images — and all processing data disappears when you close the page.
