Typing speed test
Measure typing from your first actual input, excluding preparation time. Choose one of four original short or long Korean and English passages, then watch the remaining time and correct-character count. Results freeze when the whole passage matches, the time limit expires or you finish manually.
Key features
- Four original passages: short and long Korean and English
- Monotonic elapsed-time measurement from the first actual input
- Committed IME text only, with NFC Unicode normalization
- Accuracy and correct CPM based on the current edited text
- English WPM using five correct characters per standard word
- Paste, drop and hidden-tab invalidation plus a labelled calculation example
How to use
- Choose the passage language, length and a 30, 60 or 120-second limit.
- Read the passage and type the first character in the input.
- Commit composed characters and correct mistakes if needed.
- Complete the passage, wait for timeout or choose Finish measurement.
- Read the calculation rules and restart for another practice session.
Use cases
- Practice Korean syllable entry using the same passage
- Check English WPM with the five-character convention
- Develop accurate typing habits
- Compare your own results after changing a keyboard or input setup
Frequently asked questions
When does the timer start?
It starts when the input first receives a nonempty string. Reading the passage or focusing an empty field does not start it. The first unfinished Korean composition starts timing, but its characters enter the speed calculation only after the composition is committed.
How are CPM and WPM calculated?
Correct CPM is the number of current input characters matching the same positions in the passage divided by elapsed minutes. Spaces and punctuation count as characters; a composed Korean syllable counts as one character. English WPM divides CPM by five. Korean results do not use this English word conversion.
Does correcting a mistake change accuracy?
Yes. Accuracy compares the current edited input with matching positions in the passage. It does not count cumulative keystrokes or mistakes you deleted. Omitting a character in the middle can shift later positions and make those characters count as incorrect.
What happens if time expires during IME composition?
Only the last committed input counts; the unfinished composition is discarded. A delayed timer callback still freezes the end time at the first-input time plus the selected limit. Commit the composition before finishing manually.
Can I paste text or switch tabs?
Paste and drop are blocked and invalidate the session. Hiding the tab during measurement also invalidates it and requires a restart. Browsers can expose automated input differently, so this is a practice tool, not a certified competition score or an anti-cheating system.
Are short and long passage results directly comparable?
Content, length, input setup and composition method affect results. Very short measurements can vary greatly, so compare repeated attempts under the same conditions. The fixed example is not a real measurement and remains visibly labelled.

The passage, input, unfinished composition, timing and results remain in this page's browser memory. This tool does not automatically send them to a server, URL, analytics event or browser storage. Changing settings, restarting or leaving the page clears the session.
