Screen and Display Information
Compare screen dimensions, the area available after operating-system UI, the layout viewport and the visual viewport visible while zooming. After Read information, the tool follows window, orientation and zoom changes until you stop or clear it. These are browser-reported values, not a way to obtain a panel’s manufacturer resolution or physical size in inches.
Key features
- Separate screen, available area, layout and visual viewport dimensions
- Display DPR and visual viewport scale independently
- Live size, orientation and zoom updates with an explicit stop control
- Preview and copy JSON containing units and estimation limits
How to use
- Press Read information to capture dimensions and start live updates.
- Resize the window or rotate the display and compare the sections.
- Observe DPR and visual viewport scale while zooming.
- Stop updates if needed, review and copy the JSON, then Clear to remove the values and monitoring.
Use cases
- Compare screen width with the actual layout width during responsive testing
- Explore mobile pinch zoom versus desktop page zoom
- Inspect browser-reported values after changing display scale or moving between monitors
Frequently asked questions
How do CSS pixels differ from device pixels?
CSS pixels are web layout units. DPR describes the current ratio between device and CSS pixels. Operating-system scaling and page zoom can affect it, so multiplying screen CSS dimensions by DPR produces only an estimate.
Why does the estimated size differ from my monitor specification?
Browser-reported screen dimensions and current DPR may not match the panel’s native resolution. Display settings, zoom, multiple monitors and privacy policies can affect the values. The estimate does not guarantee native panel resolution.
What are screen, available area and layout viewport?
Screen uses screen.width/height and available area uses availWidth/availHeight. The layout innerWidth/innerHeight describe the window’s interior; clientWidth/clientHeight may differ because of scrollbars and related layout details. Dimensions are displayed in CSS pixels.
What is the visual viewport?
VisualViewport represents the currently visible area. Mobile pinch zoom or the on-screen keyboard can make it differ from the layout viewport. Its scale is a visual magnification factor, not a direct desktop page-zoom percentage.
When do values update?
After starting, the tool reacts to resize, orientation and visual viewport events and checks roughly once a second. Browsers may delay background timers. Stop, Clear and navigation remove the listeners and timers.
Can this detect physical inches or every connected display?
No. It does not request physical measurements, EDID or a complete display list. It reads only screen information exposed to this page. Unsupported orientation or visual viewport values remain unknown.
Privacy
Once started, screen values are read only within the current page. They are not sent to a server or analytics event or written to browser storage. No screen capture or multiple-display permission is requested. Copying occurs only when you press the button.
