Frequently asked questions
Can I enter a regular expression?
No. a.b matches a literal dot between a and b. Pattern syntax is not interpreted.
Can the replacement be empty?
Yes. An empty replacement deletes matching text. The search string itself must not be empty.
Are overlapping matches replaced?
Matches are processed left to right without overlap. Replacing aa with b in aaaaa produces bba.
Are case and line endings changed?
Matching is case-sensitive. Whitespace and line endings outside replaced matches are preserved.
