JPEG EXIF Viewer and Remover
Review selected EXIF fields before sharing a JPEG photo. This tool reads TIFF-based EXIF camera details, capture dates, orientation and GPS coordinates inside JPEG APP1 segments. It creates a new JPEG by removing APP1, APP13 and comment segments while copying the compressed image scans and other retained segments byte for byte. Inspect both previews because removing orientation or color-related tags can change how an application displays the picture.

Frequently asked questions
Exactly what is removed and what remains?
All APP1 segments, including EXIF and XMP, all APP13 segments, including common IPTC containers, and all COM segments are removed. Bytes after the first JPEG end marker are discarded. Other segments remain, including APP0, APP2 ICC profiles and APP14. This does not guarantee removal of information stored in other containers or visible in the picture.
Is the photo recompressed or rotated?
No image re-encoding or pixel rotation is performed. Compressed scan bytes and retained segments are copied directly. Removing an orientation tag may make a previously auto-rotated or mirrored photo appear different. Removing color-related EXIF tags may also affect display in some apps. Check the output preview before downloading.
Which EXIF and GPS fields can I inspect?
The viewer reads selected standard TIFF/EXIF fields: camera make and model, software, recorded dates, orientation, pixel dimensions, GPS presence, coordinates and altitude. Dates are shown as stored without timezone conversion. Maker notes, XMP contents, thumbnails and every possible EXIF extension are not decoded. Missing or malformed values are marked rather than guessed.
Does no GPS shown mean the file contains no location information?
No. GPS status describes the inspected EXIF GPS directory only. A malformed directory may be unreadable, and location can exist in XMP, other containers or the visible picture. The remover deletes its listed containers, but retained application segments are outside its removal scope. No map or location lookup is made.
Which JPEG files are supported?
The tool supports one 8-bit Huffman JPEG image using baseline, extended sequential or progressive DCT, up to 20 MiB, 8,192px per side and 20 million pixels. Multi-picture JPEG/MPO, motion JPEG, arithmetic or lossless JPEG, and other image formats are unsupported. The browser must also be able to decode the file.
What happens to malformed EXIF or files with no target segments?
Unreadable TIFF offsets, cycles or fields produce a warning while structurally valid JPEG metadata segments can still be removed. Broken JPEG marker boundaries or resource limits stop processing. If no target segments or trailing bytes exist, the downloaded copy has the same bytes. The artificial example has orientation 6 and GPS coordinates 0, 0; these are not a real capture location.
Privacy
The photo, filename and metadata stay in the current page’s browser memory. This tool does not send them to servers, maps or tool analytics events, and does not automatically save them in browser storage. A new JPEG is downloaded only when you choose Download JPEG. The original file is not overwritten.
